Last Wednesday evening I set out towards Guardswell Farm in Perthshire to meet with some great company to chat about some exciting new ideas (it's a secret at the moment . . .). It was the GBBO semi-final but I knew if Anna had anything to do with it, a dinner meeting at Guardswell wouldn't be something I would want to miss.
I arrived at Guardswell in the pitch black and having studied a rather lovely sketch of the farm sent over by Anna earlier that day I made my way past the steadings, that are currently under going the most incredible refurbishment, and towards the trees at the end of the yard. Once at the trees, I could see the faint flickering of a few tea lights that lead the way down a narrow path through the trees.
At this point, I started to panic I may have gotten the wrong day, as it was so dark and quiet amongst the pines. But then much to my relief, I found another set of candles, this time set up outside a small wooden hut. There were no lights that I could see coming from the hut but soon enough I heard voices from inside. I pushed open the door to find the most magical set up I think I've ever seen.
Anna described her ambitions that day for achieving 'Effortless Kinfolk', which I think is the perfect way to describe the stunning set up she had created inside the hut. The table was laid out beautifully with candles, sheep skins, and pine branches. The perfect blend of rustic charm and hygee.
We then set off outside again into the woods and up the hill to retrieve our main course. A whole squash, filled with garlic and sage that had been wrapped in tinfoil and left to cook in the embers of a bonfire that had been burning for the last few days. The squash and other delights Anna had prepared were glorious. It’s safe to say that all of the beautiful surroundings did distract us from what we were there to discuss, but I do believe that it equally inspired our creativity.
It was a pleasure to work with Anna at the start of the year of the identity design for Guardswell, and I cannot wait to see the whole project complete and welcoming it’s first wedding guests, cookery students and adventurous holiday makers. With Anna and her families vision and eye for detail, I don’t doubt that it will be a huge success and I am so pleased to be able to have witnessed its evolution.
Thanks again Guardswell for the most beautiful design meeting there ever was.
